Helium Hunt Begins: Noble Readies Rig for Tanzanian Depths

Noble Helium is mobilizing a specialized drilling rig for its North Rukwa Project in Tanzania, with the Kinambo-1 well set to spud in early October. This ambitious exploration campaign targets significant helium reserves, potentially reaching 225.5 billion cubic feet on a mean-case basis.

The journey for Noble Helium's specialized drilling rig has begun. BoreXpert is now transporting the Schramm T130 XD rig from Kenya. Its destination: the remote Kinambo site in Tanzania, with arrival anticipated in the final week of September. This significant movement follows the completion of all necessary road, site preparation, and accommodation works. Long-lead items have already reached Tanzanian soil. Soon, personnel and additional essential materials will travel from Dar es Salaam to the site.

A vital contract has been secured with SLB. This agreement ensures expert downhole logging, sampling, and data collection services. SLB’s specialized equipment will arrive at Kinambo to meet the rig. The Kinambo-1 well is designed for a vertical depth of 1,750 meters. Drilling should take around 24 days, followed by comprehensive downhole logging. Selecting the Schramm rig means fewer vehicles are needed for transport. The entire move requires just five truck-and-trailer loads, covering approximately 1,500 kilometers. This campaign aims to test the North Rukwa's western margin. Here, prospective helium volumes range from 118 billion cubic feet on a best-case basis to an impressive 225.5 billion cubic feet on a mean-case assessment.

Executive Chair Dennis Donald expressed the company's enthusiasm. "This represents an important step," Donald stated, calling it a "potentially company-transforming exploration campaign." The deeper planned depths for Kinambo-1 and Kinambo-2, coupled with SLB's involvement, provide excellent prospects. This approach could allow extrapolation of results to the much larger eastern margin, earmarked for drilling next year. Noble Helium seeks a large-scale, geopolitically independent helium supply from North Rukwa, located within Tanzania's East African Rift System. Helium supports diagnostic, scientific, and space exploration industries. New demand is emerging from artificial intelligence infrastructure, advanced computing, and nuclear fusion research.
