Russian Attacks Kill Multiple Across Ukraine; Siberian Gas Plant Targeted by Drones

Multiple people were killed and dozens injured on Wednesday in a series of Russian attacks across Ukraine, targeting cities including Kiev, Mykolaiv, Kramatorsk, and Sumy.

In the capital, Kiev, a woman died after a combat drone struck a multi-storey residential building. Three other residents, including children, sustained injuries, according to civil defence authorities. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a total of 16 injuries in Russian attacks on Kiev throughout the day.

Repeated Russian assaults on the port city of Mykolaiv resulted in at least two fatalities and twelve injuries. Officials stated these attacks targeted port facilities and warehouses storing food. Separately, in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine, an airstrike injured at least nine residents, with authorities reporting the town was hit by at least nine glide bombs.

Further east, in Sumy, a drone strike on a shopping centre car park killed three people and injured fourteen. Acting Mayor Artem Kobzar confirmed the casualties via Telegram. Serhiy Kryvosheienko, the city's military administrator, stated on Telegram, "The enemy carried out a treacherous attack at precisely the moment when the town's residents were on their way home from work to go shopping." The shopping centre incurred damage, and numerous cars caught fire.

The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed launching attacks using drones and precision-guided weapons, asserting that only military depots were targeted and hit. These statements were not immediately verifiable independently.

In a separate development, Ukrainian armed forces reportedly attacked and potentially damaged a distant target in Siberia with drones. Ukrainian media indicated a gas condensation plant in Novy Urengoy, within the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of western Siberia, was the target. Officially confirmed details regarding the extent of the damage were not immediately available, though Ukrainian news agency UNIAN published unverified photos from Russian social media platforms.

Dmitry Artyukhov, governor of the district, confirmed the combat drone attack, noting a fire caused by falling debris. He stated the approaching drones were shot down and wrote, "The situation is under control." Novy Urengoy is situated over 3,000 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, and the attacked facility is considered a critical gas infrastructure asset in the region.

For months, Ukraine has targeted industrial and defence facilities, as well as refineries, on Russian territory as part of efforts to weaken the Russian military. Kiev has developed long-range combat drones capable of striking targets thousands of kilometres away.
